Veronica is the daughter of Adane Teka, a respected Ethiopian traditional singer known for performing with the masinko and for powerful freestyle storytelling. His music carried Ethiopian culture, history, and social education to audiences in Ethiopia and abroad.
Adane Teka also used music as education. One of his best-known works focused on HIV awareness at a time when the virus was spreading widely, proving that art could teach as well as entertain.
When classmates tried to shame Veronica by calling her an Azmari daughter, she answered with pride. At her first major public performance she brought her father on stage, declared herself an Azmari daughter, and helped many other young people embrace that identity instead of hiding it.
